Towards the improvement of stress tolerance in industrial yeasts: focus on methanol and acetic acid tolerance

The mechanistic comprehension of yeast adaptation and tolerance to environmental stresses is

a highly challenging and relevant topic in biological research and essential for guiding the

construction of superior industrial strains. Methanol and acetic acid are important stresses in

biotechnological processes. This PhD addresses the understanding and improvement of

methanol and acetic acid tolerance of non-conventional yeasts with biotechnological potential

(mainly Yarrowia lipolytica), through molecular microbiology and synthetic microbiology

approaches, complemented by physiological genomics studies.
