My work aims to target and quantify key metabolites produced by wheat seed-borne endophytic bacteria (SEB) and to evaluate how their production is affected by root inoculation with plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB). The work developed so far during my PhD thesis has shown that the inoculation of the PGPB Herbaspirillum seropedicae (Hs) in wheat roots can lead to a change in overall cultivable SEB composition, characterized by the detection of a different pool of endophytes compared with non-inoculated plants. We believe that these compositional changes are the result of a PGPB mediated change in the plant´s endosphere environment, which will ultimately impact the metabolic repertoire of both SEB and the plant. In light of this hypothesis, we are motivated to answer two main questions: - Will PGPB inoculation lead to a change in the endosphere´s chemical landscape? - And, how this PGPB-mediated change in the endosphere impacts the metabolic potential of SEB?
